The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) senior leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Punjab Assembly, Harpal Singh Cheema, said that the investigation of Captain Amarinder Singh-led state government in the multi-crore land scam of Majria village in SAS Nagar was as equal to deceive someone. Cheema said that the Naib Tehsildar and other accused involved in the scam should also be investigated for their closeness with the Captain government’s minister and senior officials. In a statement issued to the media on Monday, Cheema said that in the case registered by the Punjab Vigilance for forging and selling acres of land in Majria village worth crores of rupees; action had been taken against the subordinate and lower level employees to prove them guilty.
“However, the truth is that the ministers and top officials of the Punjab government are also involved in this multi-crore rupee land scam, which the Captain government is trying to save,” added Cheema. He further said that the people of Punjab were well aware that just as the land mafia had an alliance with the ministers and officials during the Akali Dal Badal government; a similar alliance was going on under the rule of Captain Amarinder Singh-led government. Cheema said that during the tenure of Parkash Singh Badal, the land mafia at the instigation of the ministers had occupied the lands of Shamlat, Panchayat and poor people all over Punjab including Mohali and this phenomenon was continuing even in the government of Captain Amarinder Singh.
The LoP said that the Naib Tehsildar who was arrested in the land scam of Majria village had close ties with the minister of Captain Amarinder Singh. “It is not possible to tamper with the official records without the connivance of the ministers and officials, but the Captain government is trying to befool the people of Punjab by taking action against the Naib Tehsildar, Sub-Registrar, Patwaris and the general public,” added Cheema. He demanded Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to conduct an inquiry not only against the arrested accused but also against the ministers and senior officials, so that the whole truth could come out to the people of Punjab.
