Chandigarh, June 2
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Delhi and Punjab affairs co-incharge, Raghav Chadha said that Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had tried several times to betray the people of Punjab on the issue of electricity and now recently another instance of betrayal was opted by the Captain government with an intention to the cheat the people with adjustment of pennies in electricity tariff. Addressing a press conference convened at the party headquarters here on Wednesday, Raghav Chadha said that Captain Amarinder Singh had befooled the people of Punjab with his false promises of issuing white paper and cancelling the faulty power purchase agreements, which were just tall claims.
Chadha said that the people of Punjab were now well aware of the intentions of the Captain Amarinder Singh-led Congress government and would not fall in the betrayal of 25-50 paisa adjustment in electricity tariff. “The Captain government hiked the electricity rates in 2017, then in 2018, in 2019 and it was again increased in 2020; and now in 2021, with 8 months prior to the assembly elections, it has decreased the rate by 50 paisa in a bid to buy the people,” he added. Chadha said that the people of Punjab cannot be bought and Captain should stop betraying them for the sake of power.
The AAP leader further said that on one side, the Captain Amarinder Singh-led Congress government was having a ‘betrayal model’ with intention to fool the people on pennies and on the other side, Delhi’s Arvind Kejriwal government has a ‘relief model’ where electricity bills do not come. “No electricity bills come in Delhi as the Kejriwal government gives electricity relief to the people and here in Punjab, the Chief Minister is trying to buy the people,” said Chadha, adding that the people of Punjab will not fall in Captain’s betrayal, manipulation and drama. He said that Delhi is not a power producing state and in Punjab, power is produced; but still Captain has not given any relief to the people, and was giving electricity at the highest rate in the country.
Chadha said that Captain Amarinder Singh was fulfilling the promise of ‘Ghar-Ghar Rozgar’ by giving government jobs to Congress leaders’ sons and daughters, while the sons and daughters of the common people of Punjab were being humiliated in the name of job fairs. Secondly, there is a political earthquake going on in Punjab at this time. While the country’s 27 states were fighting the Covid pandemic, pretending to help the people; but In Punjab, Captain was busy in internal feud rather than fighting Covid and helping the people, he asserted. Taking a dig at the Congress, Chadha said that by fighting with each other for the chair of Chief Minister; the Congress has been pulled apart. “Neither the Congress can give any future to Punjab, nor it has any future in Punjab,” asserted Chadha. He said that with this internal feud of the Congress, it has been cleared that the Congress is a party of disputes. Chadha said that the state Congress leaders had been sitting in Delhi, abandoning Punjab, where today the mortality rate was the highest. He said that there are 17 districts in the state where there is no ICU bed and ventilators are gathering dust lying in the godowns in faulty conditions.
Chadha said that in such a serious situation, the Congress was just fighting for the sake of power and seat, which had pulled it apart. He said that assuming Congress to be a hope will be nothing but wasting votes. “Congress in Punjab is on ventilator. Neither Remdesivir, nor plasma therapy or any vaccines can save it for revival. With its internal feud, Congress has already destroyed Punjab and is destroying itself as well,” asserted Chadha. He said that now the people of Punjab have hope from the Aam Aadmi Party, which follows the path of honesty and good policies, whose heart beats for the prosperity of Punjab and for which Punjab and its people are the priority. “The Congress has left no stone unturned to destroy Punjab and now the people are seeing, understanding and are aware of all this and will give a befitting reply to them,” said Chadha.
