Consider land swap, Congress MP Partap Singh Bajwa asks Modi

Date:

New Delhi, September 18: Congress MP Partap Singh Bajwa today urged PM Narendra Modi to consider the option of swapping land with Pakistan for the proposed Dera Baba Nanak-Kartarpur corridor.

In a letter to the PM, Bajwa cited an example from 1962 when land was swapped in return for a piece of land at Hussainiwala where the cremation site of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru is located.

He said, “Start bilateral talks with Pakistan and propose to transfer the Dera Baba Nanak-Kartarpur corridor to India in return for an alternative piece of land. Such a deal has a historical precedent. I offer this as an alternative to visa-free access so as to negate national security concerns that may arise.”

Bajwa had raised the issue in the Lok Sabha on December 8, 2011, when he was the MP from Gurdaspur constituency.
