‘Contest election in Punjab, you’ll win’, Pak PM Khan tells Sidhu

Date:

Narowal, November 29: Prime Minister Imran Khan while addressing the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Kartarpur corridor on Wednesday said he failed to understand as to why Indian cricketer turned politician Navjot Singh Sidhu was criticized for visiting Pakistan to attend his inauguration in August.

He said Sidhu had brought with him a message of love and friendship.

The prime minister in a jest said that if the former cricket star will contest election in Pakistan’s Punjab, he would win.

“Sidhu came with a message of love and friendship. He came to talk about friendship between the two countries. To think that two nuclear-armed countries can go to war against each other is stupidity. No one will win the war,” he said and asked what is the alternative then?

“Friendship is the alternative,” he replied.

PM Khan performed the groundbreaking of the Kartarpur corridor which will connect Gurdwara Darbar Sahib with Dera Baba Nanak in India’s Gurdaspur district today.

Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, Minister for Religious Affairs Noorul Haq Qadri, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar, Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed, and Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Afridi were in attendance at the ceremony.

An Indian delegation comprising Minister for Food Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Minister for Housing Hardeep S. Puri, Navjot Singh Sidhu, and Indian journalists and foreign diplomats also attended the groundbreaking.
