“Punjab chief minister Captian Amarinder Singh promised to regularise our services immediately after coming to power, but almost three months have passed and the government has done nothing,” said Ashish Julaha, secretary general of the contractual employees union.

He said the previous Akali-BJP government enacted a law to absorb all contractual employees who have completed three years of service and to induct outsources employees on contract, but the promises was not fulfilled.

“During previous government’s tenure, a partial survey was done in which 27,000 employees were identified. We urge them to complete the survey and fulfil its promise,” said Julaha. On March 14, two days before Amarinder took over as the CM, the union staged a dharna in which they were assured by the CM’s OSD that their services will be regularised.
