Cop shoots self, names wife, her brothers in suicide note

Patiala, January 6: A 46-year-old head constable posted as a munshi at the Officers Colony police post allegedly shot himself in the head by using an official carbine.
Senior police officials immediately rushed to the spot after they heard the shot. The deceased, identified as Jawahar Lal, shot himself at around 1.15 pm in the police post and left behind a suicide note, blaming his wife and brothers-in-law for the extreme step. He had been posted there from the past almost a year.

The SP (Investigation) Harwinder Virk and other police officials reached the spot to investigate the matter. The police revealed that the assistant munshi had just gone out when they heard a gunshot.
The SHO, Civil Lines police station, said they had registered a case under Section 306 of the IPC, pertaining to abetment to suicide.
“In his suicide note, deceased Jawahar Lal has named his wife Sunaina, her brothers Vishal and Titu, and Mohit as responsible for his suicide,” he said.
The family of the deceased, including his wife and children, were living in Chandigarh.
“We have booked the deceased’s wife and other relatives. Further probe is on,” said the SHO, Civil Lines police station.
