Srinagar, August 7: A massive counter infiltration operation is underway along the Line of Control (LoC) in Gurez sector of north Kashmir’s Bandipore district.
Sources said the gunfight between a group of infiltrating militants and the Army erupted at around 1 am in the sector, over 180 kms from Srinagar. They said the operation is still in progress.
“The counter infiltration operation is still going on and so far there is no report of any casualties,” defence sources said.
While defence sources claimed it was infiltration bid that was foiled, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Shahid Choudhary said there was a ceasefire violation in Gurez sector.
Police sources in north Kashmir said cross border firing and shelling started at LoC near Baktoor Gurez.
