JALANDHAR, February 14: Former Chief Minister and Punjab Lok Congress leader, Capt Amarinder Singh today said that country’s security and safeguarding the future of Punjab were two top most priorities for the state right now.
He also had a dig at Congress leaders for saying that he had a good relationship with BJP leaders. “I don’t care”, he remarked in his characteristic style.
Speaking during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public rally here today, Capt Amarinder said, Punjab shares a long border of 600 kms with Pakistan, which has always been hostile towards India. He said, now there was a nexus between Pakistan, China and Taliban, which added to the country’s security challenges.
Besides, he added, Punjab is faced with the humongous problem of debt of Rs 5 lakh crores, which includes Rs 4 lakh crores state debt and Rs one lakh crore owed by various corporations with state guarantee.
Under these circumstances, Punjab will need a stable and strong government that will work closely with the central government. He said, during his Chief Ministerhsip he had worked closely with the central government and got full support and cooperation.
Taking a dig at the Congress leaders that he had a good relationship with the BJP leaders, Capt Amarinder remarked, “Yes I have a good relationship with all of them and they (the Congress leaders) can say what they want, I don’t care”.
