Covid19 threat fails to dampen enthusiasm of devotees at Jor Mela

Date:

Fatehgarh Sahib, December 26: Though the Covid19 threat failed to dampen the enthusiasm of lakhs of devotees on the second day of the Shaheedi Jor Mela, it cast a shadow over top politicians’ visit as neither Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh nor SAD chief Sukhbir Badal came to pay obeisance here.

However, Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Cabinet Minister, and Prem Singh Chandumajra from the SAD, paid obeisance on behalf of their respective parties.

Addressing the media at Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib, Dharamsot said it was unfortunate that farmers were sitting on a dharna in Delhi for the past month demanding repeal of the three contentious farm laws, but the arrogant Modi government was not heeding to their demands. He alleged the Prime Minister was working as a ‘chowkidar’ of corporate houses and protecting their interests instead of farmers’.

Chandumajra also lashed out at the Centre for ignoring the farmers’ demands and said the SAD had called a meeting of all regional and like-minded parties in the first week of January in Delhi to forge an alliance to give a tough fight to the BJP over its anti-federal and dictatorial attitude.

Meanwhile, setting a unique example, the Muslim community from Malerkotla set up a community kitchen in front of Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib for devotees to express solidarity with the Sikhs.
