CPM announces first 45 candidates for Lok Sabha election

Date:

New Delhi, March 16: The Communist Party India (Marxist) on Saturday announced its first list 45 nominees—including one each from Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh—for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The party has announced it would be contesting Anandpur Sahib (Punjab), Hisar (Haryana) and Mandi (Himachal Pradesh), Raghunath Singh, Sukhbir Singh and Daleep Kainth will be contesting from these seats.

With regard to Raghunath Singh’s nomination from Anandpur Sahib, it was foregone conclusion. In fact, the Punjab unit had declared his candidature on February 10 and the party had gone into campaign mode since then.

Punjab CPI (M) head Sukwinder Singh said that Raghunath Singh had previously contested from Garshshankar assembly seat unsuccessfully. His father is an old party leader.

This is the third time the party will contest from Anandpur Sahib—its bid for the seat came to a naught in the 2014 General Election.

“The party will put up a better performance in the coming election,” Sukwinder Singh said, adding that there was lot of resentment against the National Democratic Alliance government.

With regard to Hisar, Sukhbir Singh is a fresher in electoral politics. With a peasantry background, Singh has held several posts in party’s frontal organisations.

The party has unsuccessfully contested the Mandi seat in the past, including in the last parliamentary election.
