Amritsar, October 6: Asserting that the Special Task Force (STF) was a part of the Punjab Police, DGP Suresh Arora and Special Task Force (STF) chief Mohammad Mustafa on Friday held meeting with senior police officials in the border belt. They said the focus was on eradication of the drug menace from the state.
They held meetings with senior officials in Tarn Taran, city police commissionerate and the rural police.
The meeting holds significance as there had been reports of tussle between former STF chief and the present DGP which had become a reason behind embarrassment for the state government.
The two DGPs, during the meeting, laid emphasis on the point that the STF was a part of the Punjab Police and both would work in tandem for eradication of drug abuse from the state.
“The STF is a part of the Punjab Police and the two will work jointly to stem the menace of drugs from the border state. They will work to get all the drug peddlers behind the bars and ensure they are not let off by courts due to lack of evidence behind making efforts to get them maximum punishment,” read the press statement issued by the police. They said efforts were on to attach the properties of the drug peddlers.
They also stressed on opening of sports clubs in rural areas so that the youth could be weaned away from drugs.
