Phagwara, April 18: Traders reopened shops in the town on Tuesday, three days after clashes took place over renaming of a local chowk.
Mohammad Tayab, Deputy Commissioner, Kapurthala, who is camping here since Friday, has urged people not to believe in rumours and to maintain peace and harmony. Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh, AIG, Counter Intelligence, who visited the DMC Hospital, Ludhiana, said the condition of injured Yashwant Kumar Bobby was still critical.
Meanwhile, leaders of various political parties, including former minister Joginder Singh Maan, Satbir Singh Sahbi (Congress) Avinash Gupta, Phagwara MLA Som Parkash, Mayor Arun Khosla, Parmod Mishra (BJP), Sarwan Singh Kular, Deputy Mayor, Surinder Singh Walia (SAD), and Harbhghan Singh Balalon (BSP) held a meeting to maintain peace in the town. After the meeting, a joint appeal from these parties was released.
The DC has issued orders under Section 144 of the CrPC prohibiting all printing presses in the district from printing flex boards, posters, pamphlets, posters and any material containing derogatory or inflammatory matter or objectionable words against any religion, caste or person.
The order will remain in force till June 13. Civil Surgeon, Kapurthala, Dr HS Kahlon has also been camping in the town to supervise healthcare arrangements in case of an emergency. He held meetings with government doctors and representatives of the Indian Medical Association.
The town has been divided into four zones to maintain law and order. The DC has deputed 18 Duty Magistrates with the police to deal with any emergency.
