Manpreet: Rs 10,000-cr debt waiver by Sept

Date:

Talwandi Sabo, April 15: Finance Minister Manpreet Badal, while presiding over the Baisakhi function here on Saturday, announced that the government would soon start the construction of the second phase of Shahpur Kandi project, with which 200 MW power would be produced, besides irrigating around 75,000 acre of agricultural land. He also announced Rs 1 crore for the development of the holy town.

Manpreet said: “The entire Rs 10,000-crore debt waiver benefit will be provided to 10 lakh farmers by September.” He assured people that the government would fulfil its promises.

He said, “The SAD-BJP did not waive the debt of even a single farmer in 10 years, which proved that they had been paying just lip service to the farmers, whereas the Congress stood firmly by them.”

He lashed out at Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal for not raising the issue of GST exemption on langar purchases with the PM. Talking to the media, Manpreet claimed that the Justice Mehtab Singh Commission had highlighted wrong policies of the previous government. Deputy Speaker Ajaib Singh Bhatti, MLAs Khushaldeep Singh Dhillon and Gurpreet Singh Kangar, former minister Chiranji Lal Garg and Ajit Inder Singh Mofar were present.
