After Delhi, Kanwariyas resort to ‘hooliganism’ in UP, damage another car

Date:

Muzaffarnagar, August 10: In yet another incident of unruly behaviour by the ‘kanwariyas’, a group of them on Thursday morning vandalised another car in Muzaffarnagar after it brushed past them on the road.

The passengers escaped with minor injuries. The video of the incident has been doing the rounds on social media.

Also, on Tuesday, over 20 kanwariyas (Lord Shiva devotees) damaged another car at Moti Nagar in Delhi.

The occupants of the car were a man and a woman, who had got into an argument with the kanwariyas.

The man had allegedly slapped a kanwariya.

The Delhi Police on Thursday arrested a person in connection with the vandalisation of the vehicle in Delhi.
‘Kanwariyas’ are devotees of Lord Shiva, who undertake the Kanwar Yatra to Uttrakhand’s Haridwar, Gaumukh and Gangotri Sultanganj in Bihar to fetch water of the holy river Ganges.

The group, armed with iron rods and sticks, smashed the car after a driver allegedly tried to brush past one of them while moving on a busy road.

Niti Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar came down heavily on kanwariyas and tweeted, “Public display of hooliganism should be unacceptable. Behavior of Kanwarias on national highways is a public hazard. Why should state authorities not control this movement & stop loud offensive music & takeover roads for hrs. Should Hooliganism be allowed in the name of religion?”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the chairman of Niti Aayog.
