Delhi Police reopen portion of Delhi-Meerut Expressway

Date:

Ghazipur (Ghaziabad), March 15

Delhi Police have opened a portion of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway to aid vehicular traffic moving towards Noida and Ghaziabad.

The carriageway, which allows the commuters to head to Noida and Ghaziabad from the Delhi side, was reopened in the early hours of Monday.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Vinit Kumar confirmed the development with a late-night post on social media.

“In view of the prevailing law and order situation at the Ghazipur border and keeping in mind the public convenience, the carriageway of NH-24 going towards Ghaziabad from Delhi has been opened in due consultation with the police officials of Ghaziabad district, Uttar Pradesh, in public interest,” Kumar said.

The same portion was temporarily opened on March 2 to assist maintenance work that was being carried out on the National Highway but was shut again after hours.

While the Ghazipur border has been shut down for the past 110 days, all the six carriageways connecting Delhi and Ghaziabad were completely shut for the past 48 days, post January 26 Red Fort violence. The rest five carriageways continue to be shut with multi-layered barricading and deployment of police personnel.
