Dense fog causes car pile-up on Gharaunda-Panipat road; 3 dead

Karnal, January 22: At least three people were killed and many others injured in a 15 vehicles pile-up on Monday morning on a road between Gharaunda and Panipat due to dense fog.

The traffic towards Delhi was disrupted. The incident was reported near Kohand village on the National Highway-44. The deceased were identified as Manoj Kumar (28), a resident of Kohand village, Nirmal alias Rahul (24), a resident of Araipura and Talwinder Singh, a resident of Patiala in Punjab.

This pile-up is the latest among many that have taken place in the last 3 months.  A car driver and two people on a motorcycle are among those killed. The ones seriously injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals in Karnal, Gharaunda and Panipat. The pile-up led to the National Highway 1 seeing a big traffic jam that lasted nearly an hour while rescue and recovery operations were on.
