Amritsar, May 5: As Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh suspended holding of “diwan”, a faction of dhadis announced to hold “diwan” outside the Golden Temple complex in protest. They said they would continue to do so till the Jathedar withdrew his orders. The ‘diwan’ has been suspended since May 1. Two Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Shiromani Dhadi Sabha and Miri Piri Shiromani Dhadi are at loggerheads over the allotment of performance hours.
On Friday, a group of 40 agitated members of the Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Dhadi Sabha, led by Baldev Singh MA, held a meeting.
Later, they paid obeisance at the Akal Takht and sat there for a few minutes to show their resentment, before getting assembled outside the Golden Temple complex.
They unanimously decided to lodge a protest against the Jathedar at the Golden Temple plaza from Saturday.
Baldev Singh MA said their motive was never to disturb the peace and sanctity of the Golden Temple and the Akal Takht.
He said they approached SGPC chief secretary Dr Roop Singh and Dharam Parchar Committee Secretary Balwinder Singh many a time to resume the “diwan”, but they showed their inability to intervene in the Akal Takht affairs.
“To lodge our protest in a peaceful manner, we have unanimously decided to hold the diwan at the Golden Temple plaza from Saturday till the time Jathedar withdraws his decision.
If the SGPC objects to it, we will shift the venue to the Jallianwala Bagh gate. We neither have conflict with the SGPC nor with the Akal Takht. Our fight is against the Jathedar and his unbending attitude. He has no right to demoralise us,” he said.
On the other hand, activist of the Miri Piri group Gurmej Singh Sahura said they were fully devoted to the Akal Takht and the Jathedar who holds the highest temporal seat. “Our group will accept whatever he decides. If the Jathedar has ordered not to hold diwan, we will abide by it and never hold diwan till he allows us,” he added.
