Chandigarh, April 3: In what can be called the biggest gestures of donation till date in the state of Punjab, D-MART, Dhillon Group donate Rs.5.05 crores to Punjab Chief Minister Relief fund to fight COVID-19, an initiative that will give Punjab the much needed resources in its fight against tackling the Covid-19 situation in the state.
On March 24, 2020 Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had setup the COVID-19 relief fund and had appealed to people to donate generously. Punjab being a state with limited resources needs its people and corporates to step up in this difficult time in the larger interest of the state and its people.
Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, on behalf of the state government personally thanked D-MART and Kewal Singh Dhillon, Karan Dhillon & Kanwar Dhillon for their generous contribution at this critical time and referred to them as ‘True Punjabis’ and ‘State Heroes’ who have stood by their state at this difficult time when help is needed most.
He lauded Kewal Dhillon and mentioned that he has always stood up for Punjab in difficult times. Even during the terrorism era when Punjab faced many hardships, he was instrumental in making large investments and setting up large Industries in Punjab such as PepsiCo’s concentrate facility in Sangrur which till date is providing large employment in the state.
Captain Amarinder Singh further appealed to fellow Punjabis to also contribute big-heartedly and assist the state government in this hour of distress which would go a long way in mitigating the hardships being faced by the community.
D-MART has started home delivery of essential goods via its newly launched Mobile App to help deliver essential goods to reach people at their homes during this curfew.
The Dhillon group further stated that it is also distributing daily essential goods to the weaker sections of society in various areas of Punjab where they have their infrastructure, such as District Barnala and Zirakpur, in coordination with the local district administrations and will continue this initiative till the situation improves and requested all other corporates/privileged citizens to contribute whatever they can in their respective areas to help the underprivileged survive this difficult time.
