Amritsar, January 17: The SGPC on Tuesday asked the Akal Takht to take stern action against former Chief Khalsa Diwan (CKD) head Charanjit Singh Chadha whose sleaze video clipping went viral recently and shocked the Panthic and social circles.
Showing concern about such unpleasant instances that had caused damage to the Sikhs’ image, the SGPC executive in its meeting at its headquarters in the Golden Temple complex on Tuesday passed a resolution appealing to Akal Takht to initiate action against Chadha.
The SGPC president, Gobind Singh Longowal, said Chadha should be taken to task in the same manner as was done with former Akali minister and SGPC member Sucha Singh Langah. “Such shameful instances which bring blot to Sikhs’ image and leave bad impression on the minds of youth have compelled us to include a resolution in the committee appealing to Akal Takht Jathedar that this menace be dealt with sternly,” he said.
Longowal stressed that the executive had decided to dedicate the current year to the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. “The occasion is scheduled for 2019. We plan to organise grand programmes at Sri Nankana Sahib (Pakistan), Sultanpur Lodhi (Kapurthala), Dera Baba Nanak (Gurdaspur) and Gurdwara Dera Sahib (Tarn Taran). Besides this, various programmes under gurmat lehar and dharam parchar have been chalked out where designated persons will preach Sikhism in various areas,” he said.
