Mohali/Chandigarh, May 15: It was double delight for Yadavindra Public School (YPS) as two of its students emerged as the toppers in the medical and the non-medical streams in the tricity in the Indian School Certificate (ISC) Class XII examinations. The results were announced on Monday.
Upamanyu Yaddanapudi scored 97.75 per cent marks to top all streams in the tricity and was the non-medical topper too. Last year, too, a YPS student had topped the tricity with 95.7 per cent marks in the non-medical stream. Upamanyu wants to be a researcher in mathematics. The topper, son of a doctor couple at the PGI, said he was elated over his achievement, but had no time to celebrate.
Pranav Raj, who scored 95.5 per cent marks, is the tricity topper in the medical stream. Last year, a student of St Xavier’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 44, got the first rank in the medical stream with 93 per cent marks.
“I was sure of getting good marks, but bagging the first position in the tricity came as a heartening news for me and my family,” said Pranav. Pranav’s father is a businessman, while his mother is an assistant professor. He wants to be a cardiologist. “I am very happy over my achievement and am looking forward to cracking the NEET and the AIIMS entrance,” said Pranav.
Ravleen Malhotra (17) is the commerce topper in the tricity with 97.25 per cent marks.
A student of St Xavier’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 44, Chandigarh, Ravleen scored 98 each in economics and commerce. She has started pursuing BBA from Christ University, Bengaluru. She gives credit to her parents and teachers for her achievement. Her father, Ranveer Singh Malhotra, is an AGM in Shaktimaan Tractors Equipment, while her mother, Ramandeep Kaur Malhotra, is a maths tutor.
In Class X, too, she had scored 94.6 per cent marks. As her father used to get transferred to different cities, she has stayed in Ludhiana, Nasik, Chandigarh and Lucknow, and is now studying in Bengaluru.
Samkiti Jain (18) of Strawberry Fields High School, Sector 26, is the topper in the humanities stream with 97.25 per cent marks. Her father, Shailendra Jain, is a senior advocate in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, while her mother, Peeyushi Diwan Jain, also practises in the High Court.
Samkiti has scored 100 in economics, 99 in computer science and 98 in mathematics. She has been active on the social media. “I love photography and I have a Facebook page, ‘Aimless wanderer’, for my pictures,” she said. About her future, she said, “I am preparing for law entrance tests. ”
