Chandigarh, November 30
Medical Education and Research Minister Punjab Dr. Raj kumar Verka has directed the senior officers of the department to tackle the new variant of Corona and launch an effective awareness campaign in this regard.
During a high level meeting with senior officials of Medical Education and Research Department and principals of various medical colleges at Punjab Bhawan, Dr. Verka has instructed all medical colleges and hospitals to make effective arrangements to deal with this new variant called Omicron.
Meanwhile, Officers told Dr. Verka that 3 VRDLs labs have been set up in government medical colleges for testing corona. These labs have capacity of 35000 RTPCR per day. He also informed that isolation wards have been set up in four government medical colleges with 1440 L2 beds and 830 L3 beds. At present Government Medical Colleges have 358 covid ventilators and 67 non covid ventilators.
Dr. Verka also reviewed various ongoing projects at Baba Farid University of Health Sciences Faridkot, Guru Ravidas Ayurveda University Hoshiarpur, Government Medical College and Hospital Amritsar, Government Medical College and Hospital Patiala, Government Medical College and Hospital Faridkot and Government Ayurvedic College Patiala. He also reviewed the statues of BR Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences Mohali, Shaheed Udham Singh State Institute of Medical Sciences Hoshiarpur and Sri Guru Nanak Dev State Institute of Medical Sciences Kapurthala. He directed the officers to complete the project within the stipulated time frame.
