Chandigarh, October 26
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab president and MP Bhagwant Mann has raised serious questions on the Congress government over the drug mafia. Regarding the sealed reports in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on drug trafficking for years, Bhagwant Mann argued that the state government and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) could take further investigation and decisive action against drug smugglers and their bureaucrats and political leaders; because the Honorable Court did not restrain the government and the ED from taking action against the drug smugglers.
In a statement issued from the party headquarters here on Tuesday, Bhagwant Mann said, “Like the previous SAD-BJP government, the present Congress government is also openly defending the drug lords and their political bosses and is deceiving the people. Sealed reports in the High Court on drug trafficking may be opened at any time, but the Channi government may, if it so desires, initiate further investigations into these drug smuggling cases and arrest the smugglers and gangsters and put them behind bars; because on the basis of sealed investigation reports, the Honorable High Court has neither restraint the state government nor stopped the central investigation agency ED.
Accusing the Congress government, Bhagwant Mann said that like Captain, the Channi government was also using the sealed reports in the High Court as an excuse to shun action on the much-hyped drug mafia. Therefore the Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, Home Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Advocate General Punjab APS Deol along with the ED should show such legal and court orders to the people of the state; which restraint the government for further investigation or action against drug smugglers along with cases related to drug trafficking.
The AAP leader further said that due to the high level of collusion, the Captain government through the then AG Atul Nanda used to spend time under the guise of sealed investigation reports and now the Channi government and AG APS Deol is following the same footsteps. Mann said the AG’s office was demanding the opening of the sealed investigation report so that the investigation could proceed, but the question is why the drug smugglers and their patrons are being given a chance to survive while waiting for the sealed investigation reports to be opened for further investigation and action; when the court has not restraint them.
“Will the AG’s office explain what and when the Honorable Court has stayed further investigation and further action?” he questioned. Similarly, Bhagwant Mann asked the Centre government which court had stayed the ED’s action in the multi-crore drug smuggling case. He challenged the ruling Congress that if drug kingpins and mafia were to be put behind bars as per the oath of Sri Gutka Sahib; they would have to show a living conscience and political courage and give up the pretext of sealed investigation reports in the High Court.
