Drug war: Villagers to walk 230 km to remind CM of vow

Date:

Chandigarh, July 5: Shaken by the death of two youths due to drug addiction in their village recently, residents of Khai Feme Ki near Hussainiwala in Ferozepur decided they could not wait for government intervention.

A group of villagers have taken upon themselves the task to remind Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh the oath he had taken to eradicate the drug menace and ask him to ensure that it is fulfilled.

They have, thus, started a march to his residence in Chandigarh.

Manjinder Bhullar, an advocate spearheading the march, said they felt that only awareness against the menace was a way forward.

“We started our journey on June 30 from Hussainiwala after paying obeisance at the memorial of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev. We will cover nearly 230 km on foot and reach the CM house by July 7. We hope that he will meet us.”

Along with anti-drug activists Beant Singh and Rupinder Singh Bhullar of the village, the group is attracting attention on the way, especially 30-year-old differently abled Morha Singh.

Bhullar said they had sent an email to the Chief Minister’s office, informing them about the march and seeking an appointment with him to discuss the issue.
