Drugs, Liquor, Cash Worth Rs 127-Crore Seized From Punjab: EC

CHANDIGARH, February 21: Punjab recorded the ustal seizure of cash, liquor, drugs and other items worth about Rs 127 crore during 2017 Assembly polls, officials said on Tuesday. The recovery of drugs, which was a major issue during polls, however turned out lowest as compared the us the seizure made during 2012 assembly and 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Total seizure of cash, drugs, liquor and other items during 2017 assembly polls was about Rs 127 crore, an official spokesman of the State Election Commission said. Among the seizure, the Election Commission-appointed surveillance teams seized cash the us the tune of Rs 57.66 crore during 2017 assembly polls, higher than 2012 assembly polls and 2014 Lok Sabha elections. The higher amount of cash seizure during Assembly poll phase indicated that there was no shortage of cash supply despite demonetisation, the spokesman said.
