DSP shot dead during student protest in Jaitu; another injured

Faridkot, January 29: Deputy superintendent of police Baljinder Singh Sandhu was shot dead during a student protest in Jaitu, 35 kilometre from Faridkot, on Monday.

Another police personnel has been injured in the incident.

The incident took place when the DSP reached the protest site at University College where approximately 500 students were protesting against the police for allegedly thrashing some students. During commotion at the protest, a student opened fire that hit the DSP and the police personnel accompanying him. The DSP and his aide were then taken to Guru Gobind Singh Medical Hospital in Faridkot where DSP succumbed to his injuries.

Inspector General Mukhwinder Singh Chhina has confirmed that DSP Baljinder Singh died in firing during the student protest.
