Encounter rages in Pulwama; 2 security men killed

Pulwama, April 24: Two security personnel, including an Army jawan and a Jammu and Kashmir policeman of Special Operations Group (SOG), were on Tuesday killed in the ongoing encounter between security forces and militants in Tral forest area .

In the fierce exchange of fire, an Army soldier and a policeman sustained injuries. They were evacuated to hospitals here but succumbed to injuries.

The slain security force personnel have been identified as Sepoy Ajay Kumar and Constable Lateed Gujri.

Ajay Kuamr of 42 Rashtriya Rifles died at the Army Base Hospital here.

Kumar was injured when security forces, including the Rashtriya Rifles (RR), state police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) started a joint operation against hiding militants in the Lam area in Pulwama district.
A cordon and search operation is on in the area.

This encounter comes a day after the Pakistan Army violated ceasefire along the Line of Control in Krishna Ghati sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.
