Fatehgarh Sahib, April 24: The district police claimed to have arrested a gangster involved in the murder of former SAD minister Teja Singh Dhillon’s son Sandeep Singh, alias Bobby Dhillon, besides several cases of snatchings, dacoity and kidnappings.
He had been a proclaimed offender (PO) for the last two years in nine cases registered at different police stations in Punjab. The police recovered a pistol, .12- bore gun and three live cartridges from him. Addressing mediapersons here on Monday, Alka Meena, SSP, said the CIA staff of Fatehgarh Sahib got a tip-off that gangster Raj Kumar, alias Raju, resident of Mansa district, was roaming in the district. The CIA staff immediately laid a trap and nabbed him.
She said during preliminary interrogation, he revealed his identity and said he was involved in the murder of Bobby Dhillon in 2009 and sentenced to life imprisonment in 2012. He came out on parole in 2013 and jumped the parole in that case. He was again arrested in 2014 in an NDPS case. In 2016, he fled away from the police custody while on way to the Mansa court for a hearing from the Hoshiarpur jail with the help of his accomplices.
After that he snatched a Swift car from a pesticide dealer in Maur Mandi in Bhatinda district and a Dezire car from Haryana. He kidnapped a rice miller from Bhikhi town and released him after taking ransom of Rs 5 lakh. He along with his other accomplices looted Rs 6.5 lakh from a wine contractor at a wine shop in Bhudhlada.
The SSP said after committing crime he used to travel to the Ajmer Sharif shrine to take shelter. She said to avoid police arrest he was working in a stud farm at Bara Bhai Ka village in Ferozepur district with a fake identity.
