Gurdaspur, April 6: Budh Singh, the face of the government’s debt waiver scheme, is grappling with bank notices, threatening to attach his agricultural land.Prior to the Assembly polls, Capt Amarinder had, on October 11, 2016, launched the scheme from Budh Singh’s ramshackle tenement.
He had reportedly assured the farmer that he would be the first whose loan would be waived if the Congress was voted to power.
Budh Singh had availed a loan of Rs 3.82 lakh from Punjab Gramin Bank, Kotli Surat Malhi, in 2014. It has swelled to more than Rs 5.5 lakh.
Varinder Pal, bank manager, confirmed that the debt had been put in the NPA bracket. “The process of auction (kurki) will start soon.
We will send him a couple of more notices and if there is no reply, we will put his land under the hammer,” he said.
While former Akali minister Bikram Singh Majithia questioned the CM over the denial of waiver to Budh Singh, Congress MLA Sukhjinder Randhawa said he would urge Capt Amarinder to take up the case on priority.
