Date:

Chandigarh, July 15:

Giving an affirmative response to the decision of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to slash fees for load enhancement on tube wells, more than one lakh farmers have availed the facility so far.

Pertinently, in a major reprieve to the farmers, the Chief Minister had a few days back ordered to slash fees for load enhancement on tube wells from existing Rs 4750 to Rs 2500 per BHP.

Sharing the details, the Chief Minister said that it is a matter of great pride and satisfaction for him that more than one lakh farmers from across the state have availed the benefit of this scheme. Profusely thanking the farming community for reposing faith in the state government, he said that this has filled him with gratitude and more responsibility to serve the people of state with more missionary zeal. Bhagwant Mann said that his government will make more such endeavours in coming days to ensure well being of people and progress of state.

Meanwhile, reiterating firm commitment of the state government to make agriculture a profitable venture, the Chief Minister said that this scheme was a humble gift to food growers of the state by their own government. He said that Punjab is predominately an agrarian economy with large section of its population dependent on farming. However, Bhagwant Mann bemoaned that as farming is no longer a profitable venture so youngsters are now drifting away from it.

The Chief Minister said that this scheme was a humble step by the state government to reverse this trend by reducing input costs of agriculture. He recalled that earlier farmers faced a lot of difficulty in paying the load enhancement fees on tube wells due to which the state government had decided to slash it by nearly 50%. Bhagwant Mann said that the results of this decision are encouraging as the hard working and resilient farmers of state have given thumbs up to this scheme adding that more such steps will be taken in the coming days to make agriculture a profitable venture.
