Chandigarh, April 5: Punjab FCI Region has moved 249 rakes of approximately 6.92 LMT stocks through Railways to different states of the country from March 24 to April 4.
It was informed by Mr. Arshdeep Singh Thind, General Manager, FCI, while monitoring the situation in coordination with 13 District Managers of FCI to ensure uninterrupted supply of Foodgrains to consuming region.
He further said tha FCI has also moved 21,500 MT to Jammu and Kashmir and 16,300 MT to Himachal Pradesh by road.
He said that Punjab region has 191 lakh MT of foodgrains (79 Wheat and 112 LMT Rice), sufficient to meet any demand under NFSA and PMGKY (Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana). Besides this, FCI has provided 22253 MT of foodgrains to the various districts of Punjab to tide over demand for foodgrains in the districts. FCI officials in coordination with state agencies, Railways, labourers, Transport Contractor load the special goods trains as well as trucks for HP and J&K.
Mr. Thind elaborated that this has been done while following all the precautionary measures to prevent spread of coronavirus. Besides this, all the preventive measures to check the spread of Coronavirus has been taken. District Offices and Godowns have been sanitized. Control Room at the Regional Office has also been set up to monitor the situation and to tackle any emergent situation.
“We can add that FCI has also made preparation in consultation with State Government to ensure smooth procurement of Wheat in ensuing RMS. The work done by staff/officers of FCI and labourers/contractor etc is commendable in these circumstances”, he added.
