Fee not paid, farmer’s son commits suicide

Date:

Faridkot, December 6:  An 18-year-old boy of Ramoowala village in Jaito subdivision allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree after his father failed to pay his college fee. The deceased, Gurpreet Singh, son of a farmer who owns only 1.5 acres of agriculture land, was a student of BA-II at a private college in Bathinda.

His family members said for the last few days, Gurpreet had been asking his father Kaur Singh to give him money to pay the fee as the college authorities were threatening to strike down his name due to the non-payment of fee. His father had been postponing the payment of fee, hoping to raise money from a loan. But as the family was already under a debt of over Rs 2 lakh bank loan, he failed to arrange money for the fee, said Paramjit Kaur, village sarpanch.

Today, two hours after the boy left his home, the news about his suicide spread in the village.
Bhupinder Singh, SHO, Jaito, said the police did not have any information about the case so far.
