FIR against Ram Rahim for ‘hurting’ religious sentiments: NCSC asks Punjab government to submit ATR

Taking strong notice over a viral news video wherein Sirsa dera head Gurmeet Ram Rahim is seen giving derogatory remarks against Guru Ravidass Maharaj and Sant Kabir ji, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), on the orders of its Chairman Vijay Sampla, issued a notice to Punjab government officials and asked them to submit an action taken report, immediately.

As per information received by the NCSC from the news video getting viral on social media, the dera head has been booked under section 295-A of the IPC by the Patara police for allegedly using improper language for Guru Ravidass Maharaj and Sant Kabir ji in one of his old public address and for telling wrong history regarding them, which has hurt the sentiments of the Ravidasia community.

Meanwhile, the Commission asked the chief secretary of Punjab, the director general of police (Punjab), the divisional commissioner (Jalandhar division), the Deputy inspector general of police (Jalandhar Range), the deputy commissioner (Jalandhar), and the senior superintendent of police rural (Jalandhar) to investigate the matter and to submit the action taken report, immediately, through post or email, based on the facts and information on the action taken on the allegation/matter.

Sampla cautioned the officers that if action taken report is not received within the stipulated time, then Commission might exercise the powers of the civil court conferred on it under article 338 of the Constitution of India and issue a summon for personal appearance before the commission in Delhi.
