Foodgrain ‘scam’: Guilty will not be spared, assures Sunil Jakhar

Date:

Jalandhar, May 7: Newly appointed PPCC chief Sunil Jakhar said today that the guilty in the foodgrain ‘scam’ would not be spared, even as he refused to comment on Expenditure Commission head and former Chief Secretary KR Lakhanpal’s statement on the issue.

Lakhanpal had stated in the media a couple of days ago that the legacy of the food credit limit account was “systemic rather than willful default by successive governments.”Referring to the CAG report, Jakhar said the original bungling was reported to be to the tune of Rs 12,000 crore and the rest was the interest due on the same.

“The state government is now paying interest at the rate of 8.5 per cent to banks. Even if we peg the bungled amount at Rs 12,000 crore, the government will end up paying Rs 70,000 crore in 20 years,” said Jakhar.

Accusing the then SAD-BJP government of getting the gap converted to loan, Jakhar stated that the state government had stated that it owed Rs 26,000 crore to the Centre. “What about this claim? What about the trucks whose registration numbers were found to be that of scooters?” he asked.
