Chandigarh, June 11: The state government has denied that the likely appointment of former CM Rajinder Kaur Bhattal as vice-chairperson of the Punjab State Planning Board is linked to the retention of her government accommodation in Sector 2 here.
The Tribune had carried a story, highlighting how the appointment was being made to ensure that eviction proceedings against Bhattal are not initiated in accordance with a recent Supreme Court order.
Interestingly, the press statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office did not deny that Bhattal was being appointed.
It just said if Bhattal was appointed to the coveted post, which was previously held by former state BJP chief Rajinder Bhandari, it would be on account of her vast experience and expertise in the state administration as former CM.
“With Bhandari’s resignation, one of the two posts of vice-chairperson has fallen vacant and the same has to be filled following proper procedure,” said the spokesperson.
