New Delhi, August 16: Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee passed away here on Thursday. He was 93.
Earlier, being critical he was put on advanced life-support system.
The BJP veteran was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here on June 11 with a kidney tract infection, urinary tract infection, low urine output and chest congestion.
The AIIMS had said in a statement on Wednesday night, Unfortunately, his condition has worsened. His condition is critical and he is on life-support system,
Both his lungs are not in good condition because of pneumonia on both sides and kidneys are also weak. He is critical, a source had said earlier on Thursday.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, veteran party leader LK Advani, party chief Amit Shah and Health Minister JP Nadda besides various other leaders visited the AIIMS to enquire about Vajpayees health.
A large number of mediapersons and others had gathered outside the hospital affecting the movement of traffic on the road.
Vajpayee, a diabetic, had only one functional kidney. He had suffered a stroke in 2009 that weakened his cognitive abilities. Subsequently, he had developed dementia.
