Former SP sentenced for 15 years by Gurdaspur court in two cases

Gurdaspur, February 15: The Gurdaspur court on Thursday awarded a 15-year sentence to former SP Salwinder Singh in two different cases.

Gurdaspur court had convicted Salwinder on February 15 in sexual abuse case.

While punishment of 10 years has been pronounced in a sexual abuse case, another punishment of 5 years has been given for his involvement in a corruption case. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on him.

Both the terms will run concurrently, accounting to 10 years in total.

Salwinder has been convicted for abusing his position to demand sexual favours from the wife of an accused in a rape case, which was being probed by him as the then SP of Gurdaspur.

Salwinder has been booked under Section 376 C (sexual intercourse by person in authority who abuses his position to induce or seduce a woman) of IPC and other provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act.
