Chandigarh, May 19: The state Government has decided to provide Free Wi-Fi facility in all Government ITIs, Polytechnics and Engineering colleges of Punjab. Disclosing this on Thursday, Punjab Technical Education Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said that MOU in this regard has been signed between Reliance Jio & Punjab Government.
Channi said that under the able guidance and advice of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, the department of Technical Education has decided to set up free Reliance Jio Wi-Fi campuses in all the Government and aided ITIs Polytechnics and Engineering colleges of the state. He said that this would provide free internet to the students for their academic needs and also encourage the system of cashless transactions & Digitization.
Channi further disclosed that Reliance Jio would set up the infrastructure and provide its services free of cost. In addition, Reliance Jio would bear the cost of equipment and electricity required for the functioning of Wi-Fi. Reliance Jio will also block all objectionable websites as per Government of India directions.
Earlier, the MOU for providing free Wi-Fi facility was signed in the presence of Punjab Government Officials M.P. Singh, IAS Addl. Chief Secretary, Technical Education and Industrial Training, Kahan Singh Pannu Secretary, Mohanbir Singh Additional Director Technical Education & representatives of Reliance Jio T.P.S Walia State Head & Vaibhav Mehra Marketing Head of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited.
