While actor-singer Gippy Grewal’s reeling under stress after being the latest target of gangster Dilpreet Dhahan Baba, the Carry On Jatta 2 star, we hear, is not taking things lightly. After an FIR was lodged at the Phase 8 police station in Mohali in connection with a ransom call to the star, Gippy approached the top brass of Punjab Police and sought extended security cover. DGP (Punjab) Suresh Arora has assured swift action and protection to the industry.
Though Gippy flew overseas and is expected to stay abroad for some days, he’s roped in a private security team, which will update him on the latest happenings. Also, till the time Punjab police takes any decision regarding his security, the private army of bouncers will ensure the actor’s security, at least when he’s in India.
On Saturday evening, Gippy claimed to have received a video call (extortion) from gangster Dhahan who threatened him with dire consequences and warned that there’s going to be a repeat of Parmish Verma incident.
Parmish too was attacked by Dhahan on April 14 when he was returning from a performance in Chandigarh. “The request is being considered,” said a cop.
According to Mohali police official, Rs 10 lakh extortion call was allegedly being made by Dhahan to Gippy, for which the investigations are on. “We have certain clues and we are working on them,” he said.
On the other hand, the cops from crime branch/special unit have suggested actors/celebrities to avoid sharing locations on social media, for it makes things easy for a miscreant.
Recently, singer Navjot Singh was found dead in Derabassi near Chandigarh, which left the industry in shock. Recent attacks, threat/extortion calls etc has shaken the morale of Punjabi industry, which claims to have been the latest target. Not wishing to be named, a Punjabi film director said, “What do we do? The way things are shaping up, it can turn humongous, if not controlled now.” He said they plan to meet the Chief Minister (Punjab) Capt. Amarinder Singh and police officials in this regard.
