Moga, March 18
A girl was killed and another seriously injured after they were reportedly shot at from point-blank range with a revolver in a car at Manuke village in Nihalsinghwala sub-division of the Moga district on Thursday evening, police sources said.
The suspect identified as Gurveer Singh, son of Jagdev Singh, a resident of Sekha Khurd village, who was sitting in the driver’s seat of an Alto car, was later arrested from Ludhiana district. The car used in the crime has been recovered from him. The weapon has also been recovered, the local police officials confirmed.
Moving metres away from the bus stand, Gurveer Singh allegedly pushed out one of the girls sitting on the front seat by opening the window of the car. The other girl sitting on the rear seat opened the window of the car and fell down in a bid to escape when he pointed a revolver and fired at her, eye-witnesses said.
After this, the assailant fled the spot leaving the injured girls on the roadside.
Another youth coming on a car from behind took the injured girls to a government hospital from where they were referred to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital at Faridkot, the local police officials said.
Till the filing of this report, one of the girls had succumbed to the injuries. Both the girls were yet to be identified by the local police. The injuries suffered by the other girl were also of grievous nature due to heavy loss of blood, the doctors who attended to them, said. She was battling for life.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Gurveer also tried to kill himself after the incident, but he fell short of bullets.
The car used in the crime was not registered on his name. Neither the revolver used in the crime belonged to him. Police trying to find out the owner of the weapon and the car.
