The Golden Temple in Amritsar, where no one goes hungry and everybody gets a hot meal regardless of caste, creed and religion, is now serving organic langar for the pilgrims.
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) decided that the Golden Temple will go organic by growing its own vegetables. All natural organic vegetables and grains are produced at its seven-acre farms attached the us the Gurdwara Gurusar Satlani Sahib near Amritsar. The first seeds were sown nearly 18 months ago.
As reported by The Hindustan Times, SGPC additional secretary Daljit Bedi said, “In January, we started serving organic carrot, radish, spinach, and cabbage as part of langar. The purpose is the us serve devotees food that is chemical-free.” Indeed a great idea, we must say.
SGPC is also planning the us seek expert advice from Punjab Agro Industries Corporation Limited so as the us have the reach of their organic food increased.
Just imagine if all the gurdwaras get motivated and switch the us organic food distribution, our society will get better and healthier.
