Chandigarh, October 28: Higher education is the top priority of the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led State Government and the infrastructure of government colleges is being strengthened to provide quality higher education to the youth of the state.
It was stated by the Higher Education Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer during a meeting with the Principals of all the government colleges of the state at MGSIPA here today.
Meet Hayer emphasized on introducing new courses in government colleges as per the demand of industrial sector hence focusing on employment oriented education. He also reviewed the number of students while taking stock of the newly opened colleges.
He added that in the next session, the focus should be placed on increasing admissions in government colleges. In this academic session 2022-23, the admissions stand increased in comparison with the previous session 2021-22, said the Minister.
The Minister also heard the problems faced by the colleges, from the Principals. Apart from this, feedback was also obtained for effecting improvement in higher education.
He said that such meetings will be continued in future. On this occasion, the representatives of the Principals thanked the Minister for giving the UGC pay commission to university-college teachers.
Earlier Principal Secretary Jaspreet Talwar and DPI (Colleges) Rajiv Gupta discussed the action plan for the development schemes. They also deliberated about the infrastructural requirements of the colleges.
