The Dairy Development Department through its 9 training centers set up in the state of Punjab runs a two week Dairy Training Program for the rural unemployed youth, in which about 6000 unemployed youth are trained every year.

Disclosing this here today Mr. Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development said that apart from this special training program, the department also runs a 4 week Dairy Enterprise Training Program in which the existing milk producers are trained in a scientific manner. Advanced training is imparted to adopt the dairy practice. In which1000 candidates are trained every year. He said that in order to set up a new dairy unit, financial assistance of Rs. 17500 per animal for general category and Rs. 23100 to the person belonging to SC category is given.

Mr. Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa said that it was the first duty of the cattle breeder to protect the milch cattle from hot and cold, high and low places and crowds. He said that every animal has the freedom to roam, eat, drink and sit up as they wish. He said that to provide all these facilities the Dairy Development Department has prepared the designs of Dairy Sheds with expert opinion. Accordingly a subsidy of up to Rs. 1.50 lakh is given to the cattle farmer for making shed. He said that these sheds ,for 10 to 20 animals, have been designed in consultation with Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Science University, Ludhiana and progressive milk producers, which cost around Rs. 4 to 6 lakhs.

Mr. Tripat Bajwa said that today was the age of understanding and applying scientific techniques meticulously. Every job and profession has its own improved techniques, which can be adopted to make this profession useful. The first point of a successful entrepreneur is to control the cost and sell the high quality produce in the market at a reasonable price. Today’s dairy business has also become a business in which information technology can be combined with livestock management, feed, health facilities and better marketing to get higher yields at low cost. “Now milk producers have to become better farmers as well as better managers.” added Mr. Bajwa.
