Govt is there 24 hours to address any doubts farmers may have, Modi says in Gujarat

Date:

New Delhi, December 15

Amid the ongoing protest by farmers on the Delhi borders against the Centre’s new agricultural laws, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the three Central farm laws had been rolled out keeping in mind the benefit of farmers.

Reaching out to those agitating on the borders of the National Capital, Modi also slammed Opposition parties for “misleading farmers”.

“Can any dairy owner who enters into a contract with a dairy farmer for buying milk take away his buffalo?

“Farmers are being misled. The laws will benefit everyone, including small and medium farmers. Why can’t they have the same freedom as dairy farmers to sell their produce to whom they want. Opposition leaders are misleading farmers for narrow political gains,” he said during a visit to Kutch district in Gujarat where he inaugurated infrastructure projects, including of renewable energy.

The PM told farmers that the government is there 24 hours to address any doubts the farmers might have.

“The farm laws are for your benefit. Different parts of the country have given them their blessings. I am sure the ‘jagrook’ farmers of the country will defeat those who are spreading lies,” the PM said.

He also met members of the farming community, including Sikh cultivators in Gujarat, during the visit.

Sikh farmers said they discussed the issue related to setting up of a gurdwara in the region, according to reports.

A group of Sikh farmers, settled in areas near the Indo-Pakistan border, has been invited for an interaction with the Prime Minister, according to a release by the state government’s Information Department.
