GST on langar items to go soon, claims Sukhbir

Date:

Amritsar, May 30: The Goods and Services Tax (GST) on langar purchases at the Golden Temple is likely to be waived soon, said SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal who along with his wife and Union Minister Harsimrat Badal paid obeisance at the shrine on Tuesday.

Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal at the Golden Temple in Amritsar on Tuesday.

Sukhbir said the matter had been taken up with the Union Finance Ministry which “has given positive signals”. “There is a delay as Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is not keeping well. You will soon get the good news,” he said. Harsimrat, too, has reportedly taken up the issue sternly with the Union Government and reports suggested that she had even threatened to quit.

Meanwhile, Sukhbir claimed that despite free flow of liquor and money to woo voters in the Shahkot bypoll by the Congress, the SAD candidate would win.

“The Congress misused the government machinery to pressure Akali Dal workers. A truckload of illegal liquor of an unapproved brand was confiscated at Baghapurana, which had exposed the government’s nefarious designs,” the SAD president said.
