Gurdaspur, Oct 7: Addressing a rally, Punjab local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu promised to release lavish grants for developmental works here if the residents ensured Congress nominee Sunil Jakhar’s win.
Sidhu was addressing the rally at the Hanuman Chowk in Gurdaspur on Friday. Comparing old and new Akalis, Sidhu said that the old Akalis wore blue turbans while new Akalis like Sucha Singh Langah made blue films.
Sidhu appealed to the Akal Takht jathedar to call on SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal seeking explanation about why he preferred bad leaders like Sucha Singh Langah and Bikram Singh Majithia to the old and seasoned Akali politicians like Ranjit Singh Brahampura.
Referring to case against BJP-SAD alliance candidate Swaran Singh Salaria, Sidhu said he was no better than Langah. Sidhu claimed that Salaria will also meet the same fate as Langah.
Meanwhile, chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s wife and former union minister Preneet Kaur also campaigned for Jakhar. She said the party is sure of Jakhar’s victory.
