Harjot Bains directs to find technical solutions to end Mobile usage in Punjab Jails

Date:

Chandigarh, May 19:

In order to convert the jails of the state into ‘Sudhar Ghar’ in real sense, Punjab Jails Minister Mr. Harjot Singh Bains directed the department officials to explore the modalities to introduce a latest technology to completely stop the usage of mobile phones and locate them from inside the jail premises.

Presiding over a high-level meeting here at Punjab Bhawan, the Cabinet Minister directed to ramp up man power in jails, whiles asking Special Chief Secretary Jails Mr. Vijay Kumar Janjua to deploy extra police personnel to tighten the noose around prisoners who are involved in illegal activities.

“To break the nexus of gangsters and criminals operating from jails, the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has so far confiscated the maximum mobile phones from jails by launching a special drive. It will also be ensured in the future that there not even a single illegal activity could be done from inside the jails,”the minister added.

It is pertinent to mention that an Indian IT/ Communication system integration company MAPL gave a presentation and apprised the cabinet minister that they will cover the jails through geo mapping and will capture the signals of mobile, WhatsApp and other calls through geo fencing and the technology will create a real time data. They can block the call immediately, besides detecting the mobile phone users actual location.

ADGP jails Varinder Kumar, IG jails Roop Kumar Arora and several other officials were also present in the meeting.
