Health Department issues advisory regarding cold wave

In view of the persisting severe cold wave conditions in the state, Health and Family Welfare Department has come up with a detailed advisory. It is pertinent to mention here that Punjab is witnessing a drop in temperature to near freezing point and prolonged exposure to cold increases likelihood of various illnesses like flu, running stuffy nose or nosebleed, hypothermia, frostbite etc.

Giving more details regarding the advisory issued by the department to keep oneself safe from such harsh weather conditions, Director Health and Family Welfare Department Dr. Andesh stated that people should keep track of the Meteorological Department’s forecasts regarding cold wave and also the Met department has issued ‘Orange Alert’ for Punjab in view of the cold wave conditions.

Stating further, the Director said that people should follow the Health Department’s advisory in letter and spirit to keep themselves safe from the ongoing cold wave conditions. She also warned against the threat of the Omicron variant as it is stated to be three times more transmissible than the Delta variant. The Director appealed to the people to complete their vaccination and follow covid appropriate behaviour.
