Chandigarh, October 30: The Bharatiya Janata Party is all set to campaign aggressively against Congress in the state alleging serious failure of the state government to handle Gudiya gang rape and murder case and arrest of the real accused while campaigning across the state.
The BJP is so serious about the issue also evident from its manifesto unveiled by the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in Shimla today. Jaitley has announced that with a view to prevent the crime against women in the state, the BJP will launch Gudiya scheme to set up special police station for women and 24X7 helpline if voted to power.
It may recalled that Gudiya (16) of Kotkhai was gang raped and murdered brutally on July 4 this year and it had led to heavy protest by the locals against the state government. The aggrieved people of the area are still fighting against the state government seeking justice for Gudiya.
While addressing the press, even Finance Minister Arun Jaitley mentioned it was complete failure of the system during the Congress regime and now after coming to power we have to work hard and do work double to compensate the losses in the previous five years.
The significance of the Gudiya case for BJP also witnessed when before the release of the vision documents, the BJP has played one video depicting failure of the state government on various issues. This video had depicted strong anguish and protest against the state government in connection with Gudiya case.
Going into background of the case, Gudiya of a poor family was studying in 10th class and was gang raped and murdered on July 4 this year when after attending the school she was on her way to home which is about 5 Km away. Two days later her body was recovered from the nearby forest area with serious injuries marks all over the body include private parts.
Later autopsy report revealed that she was gang-raped and strangulated to death later. She was subjected to inhuman treatment by the accused. Gudiya’s leg and arm had fracture and cigarette burn scars on her body was also found.
The police has registered FIR in the case on July 6 under sections 302, 376 and POCSO act at police Station Kotkhai of Shimla. Subsequently following public protest the police had arrested total six persons include Ashish Chauhan, Rajender Singh alias Raju, Suraj Singh, Subhash Singh Bisht, Lokjan alias Chhotu and Deepak.
Later Suraj, a Nepalese national was killed in police custody allegedly on the intervening night of July 18 and July 19. He was alleged to be murdered by another accused Rajender Singh. As a result, Himachal Pradesh which usually remains peacefully was marred with violent protests by the aggrieved and badly shaken people due to gang rape and murder of Gudiya.
Later the case was handed over to CBI by the High Court. The CBI in its investigation found alleged involvement of police officials in murder of Suraj. The CBI has arrested Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zahoor H Zaidi and 7 other policemen in connection with the custodial death of Suraj.
Meanwhile, all the five accused were released on bail as the CBI has not filed chargesheet against them in stipulated time period. It was also surfaced that CBI could not found anything substantial against the five during the investigation and even their DNA does not match with the DNA samples collected from the spot.
