Hoarders blindly looting on essential Covid-19 medicines and oxygen, Modi government fails to crackdown: Meet Hayer

Chandigarh, April 26, 2021

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab Youth Wing president and MLA Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government had failed to crackdown on those indulging in hoarding and over-pricing of essential Covid-10 medicines like remdesivir, Covid vaccines, and oxygen cylinders. In a statement issued from the party headquarters here on Monday, Meet Hayer said that the Modi’s centre government was responsible for controlling the distribution of oxygen and medicines and had failed in stopping hoarding. He said that it has been more than a year since Covid-19 had hit the country and the virus had infected millions of people last year and thousands had lost their lives.

He said that when the doctors and scientists of the country had warned in advance about the re-emergence of Covid pandemic in the country, the Modi-led central government did not provide any necessary medical services and made any adequate arrangements to save the lives of the people. Moreover, now the hoarders were blindly looting the people on essential Covid-19 medicines and oxygen, thus increasing their burden. He said that there was no check on the misuse of medicines and vaccines and the pharmacy companies were hoarding large numbers of stock, further selling it at unreasonable prices and also indulging in black-marketing.

Hayer said that the artificial shortage of oxygen and the medicines by the hoarders cannot be ruled out. “There is no check on such people and the Modi government is only doing ‘drama’ in the name of crackdown. It is very unfortunate and shameful that the Modi-led central government was doing politics in this time of pandemic,” he added. Further accusing Modi of colluding with Pharma companies, Hayer said that earlier Prime Minister Modi tried to ruin the lives of farmers by colluding with Adani-Ambani and now they were playing with the lives of common people by tying up with Pharma companies. Taking a dig at Modi, he further said that there was panic among the people due to the incompetence of the Modi government. “Modi’s peculiarity is to do politics by fear and panic, thus harassing the people,” added Hayer. He said that it was the Modi government’s track to encourage hoarding by benefiting some of its close corporate houses and harassing the general public. “One of the examples of which is the Essential Commodities Act among the three black farm laws, which clears that Modi favours hoarding,” he added.

Hayer said that Covid cases and mortality rate was rising at record levels in the country but all the BJP leaders and ministers were busy in West Bengal assembly elections. “Modi has left the states alone to fight Corona and is making false claims in the name of vaccines. The central government is discriminating in providing corona vaccines and other essentials to the states and are further boosting the business of some of its crony pharmacy companies by working with them in collusion,” said Hayer.
