Chandigarh, March 2
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab today gives memorandum to the Deputy Commissioners of Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar and Kapurthala in their protest against the decision of Centre’s Modi government to abolish the membership of Punjab from the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB). Giving information, senior AAP leader and Leader of Opposition Harpal Singh Cheema said that AAP has sent a letter demanding that the Hon’ble Governor should defend the rights of Punjab in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the attacks on the rights of Punjab by the Central Government should be stopped immediately.
In a statement issued from the party headquarters on Wednesday, Harpal Singh Cheema said that party leaders under the leadership of AAP candidate Prem Kumar from Phillaur in Jalandhar district and Jeet Lal Bhatti from Adampur have submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Jalandhar. Similarly, party leaders have also submitted demand letters to the Deputy Commissioners of Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar to protect the rights of Punjab.
Cheema said that BBMB set up on the soil of Punjab and now conspiracies are being hatched to oust Punjab. He said that earlier the Congress governments at the Center violated Punjab’s rights and now the BJP’s Modi government treating the states similarly and this behaviour of union government is a direct blow to the federal structure of India.
Cheema said that the Central Government should refrain from taking arbitrary decisions in the rules of BBMB and stop its step-motherly behaviour towards Punjab. Prime Minister Narendra Modi should immediately withdraw the decision to end Punjab’s permanent membership in the management of BBMB and restore the rights of Punjab by reviewing this anti-Punjab decision.
